Posting an errand

Everything you need to know to write a clear errand, schedule it correctly and follow it to completion.

Updated April 2, 2026

#What you can post

Runners handle parcel returns and pickups, pharmacy pickups, dry cleaning, grocery top-ups, key handoffs, waiting at home for deliveries or repair visits, and similar everyday tasks. If you're unsure whether something qualifies, ask support before you post.

A few things are outside what runners can do:

  • Cash transactions over $200
  • Anything illegal or unsafe
  • Moving heavy furniture
  • Transporting people or pets

#Writing a clear errand

Clear errands finish faster and get accepted sooner. Each errand has a title, a location step for each stop, and optional notes. Include anything a stranger would need to know: the name on the order, the store's exact address, the return label or QR code, and where to leave the item.

  • Attach proof: add order confirmations, return QR codes or authorization letters as images or PDFs.
  • Set an item value: for goods in transit, note the approximate value so the right handling instructions are shown to the runner.
  • Name a recipient: if someone else will receive the handoff, add their name. Runners verify the name before completing any handoff.
  • Add a backup contact: a second phone number in case you can't be reached.

Title: Return two boxes to the UPS Store
Stop 1: 1420 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago (leave with doorman, ask for Denise)
Stop 2: UPS Store, 2208 N Clark St (QR codes attached)
Notes: Boxes are taped. Keep the receipts and photograph them.

#Scheduling and time limits

You can request an errand as soon as possible or schedule it for a specific window. How far ahead you can schedule depends on your plan, and so does the maximum time a runner will spend on one errand:

PlanSchedule up toMaximum errand duration
Starter7 days ahead1 hour
Household14 days ahead2 hours
Team30 days ahead3 hours
Business60 days ahead4 hours

Same-day errands can be posted until 2:00 p.m. local time. If you post after that, we place the errand in the next available window. Waiting-at-home errands, such as being present for a repair visit, count toward the duration limit for your plan, so pick a window that fits.

#Tracking and completion

After a runner accepts, you'll see a live map, an estimated arrival time and a chat thread. Every errand ends with a photo confirmation from the runner. Review the photo and tap Confirm completion. Insurance coverage stays active from acceptance until you confirm.

If your errand isn't confirmed within 24 hours of the runner's completion, it is closed automatically and receipts are generated. If something looks wrong, choose Report a problem before confirming.

#Changes, cancellations and tips

  • Edit an errand: you can change details until a runner accepts. After that, use chat and the runner can update the errand for you.
  • Cancel an errand: cancel from the errand page at no cost until a runner is en route. After that, the errand still counts against your allowance.
  • Runner cancels: we automatically re-offer the errand to other nearby runners and notify you immediately. If we can't complete it in your window, it doesn't count against your monthly allotment.
  • Tips: tipping is optional. Runners keep 100% of tips, which you can add in the app for up to 48 hours after completion.
